Do you have a sweet tooth? Yeah, us too, and this summer we’ve been busy in the kitchen seeking out delicious dessert recipes — sans the egg and dairy. We’ve heard a rumor or two that plant-based baking is all about what you’re giving up, but we couldn’t disagree more! Vegan baking means opening up a whole new world of flavors and ingredients, and it doesn’t have to be time-consuming, either.
Before you hit the grocery store, we’ll start with the basics, like addressing one of our favorite questions, “what about the eggs?” Well, eggs aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. Luckily, there are a handful of ingredients that can replace them, it just takes a little bit of experimentation to figure out which work best for you. Some popular alternatives are ground flax seeds mixed with water — which can give you an extra boost of omega-3s — or mashed up banana.
When it comes to milk, almond or rice milk are both great options; for a richer dessert, try coconut or soy milk. Coconut oil is also your friend, and is frequently used for baking vegan desserts.
