Shifting to plant-based protein and milk will help New Zealand’s transition to a low-emission economy, Oscar-winning movie director James Cameron says.
Cameron, director and writer of blockbuster films such as Avatar, The Terminator, Titanic, and Aliens, and his environmentalist wife Suzy Amis Cameron brought their views to the table at the Just Transition Summit in New Plymouth on Thursday.
The couple live on a 5000-hectare farm in south Wairarapa and grow organic fruit, nuts and vegetables.
The Camerons told the summit the dairy sector contributed 22 per cent and agriculture overall 48 per cent of emissions, but contributed a much lower percentage to the Gross Domestic Product, although it also contributed to export.
